There are times when it can be difficult to know how to respond when a friend has posted sad news on Facebook. Equally it can be difficult for users to express negative emotions like frustration or disapproval of something showing up in their Facebook feed.
Leaving a comment may not feel quite appropriate in these situations but pressing the like button can feel insensitive too. “How do I respond to this?” is a question many Facebook users have asked themselves before?
It was during a Q&A session held at the Facebook headquarters that founder Mark Zuckerberg announced the solution. Facebook are very close to having a dislike button ready for user testing!
He went on to say that “people have asked about the dislike button for many years" but that this is not intended as a mechanism to down vote the posts of friends and family.
This is a big step forward for Facebook users that wish to be able to express empathy as quickly and easily as they can express joy. It will certainly be interesting to see how Facebook implement this button and how its users respond to this new feature.
